a word from the artistic director:
I first came across American Idiot in the Summer of 2016, right as BAZP was in full swing with our production of Heathers: The Musical. I recognized then that this was the show for us. Two years later, it seems more relevant than I could’ve imagined that summer.
American Idiot explores the intersections of mental health and capitalism, our country’s toxic militarism and propaganda, and questions the idea of what it means to be “valuable” to a society. We are Generation Z- we were born in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s- we have grown up in this post-9/11 world.
Today we see a constant overwhelm of suffering in the world. I hope you’ll be receptive to what injustices this show provokes for you. BAZP’s take on American Idiot has brought me hope and validation of our anger. While the ensemble will sing, “I don’t care!”- the truth is far from that’s . It is my absolute honor to present this show to you. I have never felt more passionate about a show or a company. Without further ado, enjoy rocking out to American Idiot. Please know that generation Zeta strives to stray from apathy, politicize our art, and practice empathy until we see change.
